    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process starts by raising and supporting the vehicle before removing the rear wheels followed by the tires. Start by reducing the tension on the park brake system at the equalizer assembly before removing the rear caliper bracket and the rear rotor. Disconnect the rear park brake cable from its bracket at the rear wheel then detach the park brake cable return spring from the park brake actuator and bracket at the rear wheel. The removal step includes the rear hub assembly in combination with the rear hub along with the backing plate and park brake cable bracket and park brake actuator hardware. After separating the two retainers and the park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator you can place the rear hub to the side. Take out the park brake shoe and actuator from the backing plate position. Begin by putting the park brake shoe and actuator assembly on the backing plate before fitting it on the rear hub. Begin assembly by first installing the park brake cable bracket and the two retainers , then install the complete rear hub assembly. The rear park brake cable should be wired to the bracket that resides at the wheel while the park brake cable return spring should be attached to the park brake actuator and rear wheel bracket. Put the rear rotor and rear caliper bracket together before adding the rear wheels mounted with tires. Lower the vehicle after adjusting the park brake at the equalizer.
