    Q:
How to replace the starter motor on Chevrolet Uplander? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for the Starter motor starts with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Start by removing the radiator air baffle and the engine to transmission brace at the rear left part of the engine. First remove the transaxle converter cover bolt then take off the transaxle converter cover. First disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the Starter then remove the engine harness ground nut and the engine harness ground. Start by loosening the Starter motor "bat" terminal nut before removing the positive Battery Cable (3, 6) and engine harness from the Starter motor "bat" terminal. The Starter motor "s" terminal requires both its "s" terminal nut and the engine harness removed from the "s" terminal before removing its Starter bolts and Starter itself. During electrical connections always double-check the nut located next to the bat terminal cap because tightening it properly will prevent damage to the solenoid. Install the Starter motor into the engine while tightening each bolt to 40 n.m torque (30 lb ft). Connect the engine harness to the Starter motor "s" terminal before installing and fixing the Starter motor "s" terminal nut to 3 n.m (27 lb in). Twist the Starter motor's "bat" terminal nut to 17 n.m (13 lb ft) after attaching the engine harness and positive battery cables (6, 3). The Starter receives its electrical connection through the engine harness electrical connector while the engine harness ground requires installation followed by a tightening of the ground nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Place back the transaxle converter cover bolt and transaxle converter cover while securing the bolt with 10 n.m of torque (89 lb in). To complete the installation the engine-to-transmission brace must be returned to the rear left side of the engine while also reinstalling the radiator air baffle and reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
