    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle in a coil spring suspension on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Steering Knuckle under coil spring suspension in a vehicle, lift the vehicle and support it with a jack, after lifting the tire and wheel to remove it. Jack up the vehicle and support the lower Control Arm, remove the Wheel Hub and bearing. Remove the electronic suspension control (ESC) link rod from the sensor if equipped and the low tie rod from the knuckle. Take out the brake hose bracket retaining bolt from the knuckle, then using the j 43631 Ball Joint remover and j 45851 Ball Joint separator protector adapters along with removing the retaining nut and separate the upper Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle and then on to the lower Ball Joint. After removing Steering Knuckle, clean all grease and contaminants from the section with taper in the upper Ball Joint, lower Ball Joint, and the end of tie rod and observe the taper holes and mounting face of Steering Knuckle. Replace the Steering Knuckle if there are elongated, out of round or damaged tapered holes. Install the Steering Knuckle, attach the lower Ball Joint to it, and install the retaining nut and tighten to 100nm (74ft. Lbs.). Mount the upper Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle and set its retaining nut, torque it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Mount the brake hose bracket retaining bolt onto the knuckle while applying a tightening force of 9 nm (80 inch lbs), after which fix the outer tie rod onto Steering Knuckle and Wheel Hub and the bearing. If so, connect the esc link rod to the sensor and install tire and wheel, remove the safety stands, and lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the front steering knuckle on a 4WD on Chevrolet Silverado 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the steerable knuckle replacement by first lifting the 4wd vehicle before supporting it while removing the tire and wheel. The next step involves removing the Wheel Hub combined with the bearing assembly. Lift the lower Control Arm using a suitable jack while you disconnect the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. Begin by removing the brake hose bracket retaining bolt from the Steering Knuckle followed by removing the upper Control Arm retaining nut. The Ball Joint separation process starts through joint removal operation using j 43631 Ball Joint remover (J 43631) and j 45851 Ball Joint separator protector adapters (J 45851) on the Steering Knuckle's upper Ball Joint. Unload the lower Control Arm retaining nut before using the same tools to break apart the lower Ball Joint. Follow Steering Knuckle removal by cleaning the tapered parts and threads of the upper Ball Joint, lower Ball Joint and Tie Rod End free from grease and contaminants. Steering Knuckle replacement is required when inspection reveals elongated, out-of-round or damaged mounting surfaces or taper holes. Attach the new Steering Knuckle followed by installing the lower Ball Joint then torque its retaining nut to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the upper Ball Joint retaining nut while maintaining a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the brake hose and its mounting bracket retaining bolt while tightening it to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Next, connect the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle. Install first the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly and then replace the tire and wheel. Depress the lower Control Arm support before lowering the vehicle to perform alignment checks.

    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle on Chevrolet Suburban 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
A Steering Knuckle replacement starts by raising and supporting the vehicle while removing the tire and wheel assembly. Start by disconnecting the real time damping (RTD) link rod from the sensor if your vehicle has it along with a Wheel Hub and bearing removal. A proper jack should be used to support the lower Control Arm before disconnecting the outer tie rod from the knuckle. The Ball Joint separating tool (J 43631) allows you to disconnect the upper Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle when you first remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolt followed by the retaining nut. Perform this same procedure on the lower Ball Joint. Clean all grease and debris from each joint's threaded components and tapered section before inspecting the knuckle's mounting surfaces and taper holes for damage. Screw the new Steering Knuckle into place before connecting the lower Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle. Use a torque wrench to tighten the retaining nut to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). After installing the upper Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle, tighten its retaining nut to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Secure the brake hose bracket retaining bolt to the knuckle by turning it to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) continue by connecting the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle. Install the Wheel Hub and bearing after which reconnect the rtd link rod to the sensor and install the tire followed by wheel and finally remove safety stands and lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle on a 4WD on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should start by lifting the vehicle before supporting it when you want to replace a 4wd Steering Knuckle. Start by removing the wheel, then the tire followed by Wheel Hub alongside bearing assembly removal. A proper jack needs to stabilize the lower Control Arm before disconnecting the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. The Steering Knuckle must yield the brake hose bracket retaining bolt. Use the Ball Joint separator (J-42188-B) to part the upper Ball Joint and Steering Knuckle after extracting the upper Control Arm retaining nut. Insulate the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle by first using the Ball Joint remover (J 43631) with Ball Joint separator protector adapters (J 45851). Stripping the Steering Knuckle requires cleaning the tapered areas and threads of all three components - the upper Ball Joint, lower Ball Joint, and tie rod end - from any remaining grease or contaminants. Examine the mounting surfaces as well as the taper holes on the Steering Knuckle. Replace the Steering Knuckle when it shows signs of elongated tapered holes or out of round or damaged condition. Insert the new Steering Knuckle then bolt the lower Ball Joint to its mounting position. Finally torque the retaining nut to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Install the upper Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle followed by installing its retaining nut which needs to be tightened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Screw in the brake hose and bracket retaining bolt onto the Steering Knuckle before tightening the bolt to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). After connecting the outer tie rod with the Steering Knuckle you should install the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly before installing tire and wheel. After removing the lower Control Arm support, lower the vehicle before performing alignment.

    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle on Chevrolet Suburban 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Steering Knuckle replacement process starts by supporting the vehicle while it is raised with proper tools and by removing the tire along with the wheel. If your vehicle has rtd link rod sensor connectivity disconnect it along with unloading torsion bars before continuing. As a first step disconnect the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle then remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolt from the Steering Knuckle and remove the Wheel Hub assembly with its bearing. Use the Ball Joint separating tool (J43631) to disconnect both upper Control Arm retaining nuts. Afterward, use the same tool (J43631) to separate the upper Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle and then do the same with the lower Control Arm retaining nut and lower Ball Joint. Proper cleanup of grease and contaminants from the upper Ball Joint along with the lower Ball Joint and Tie Rod End tapered sections and threads must occur. Additionally the Steering Knuckle's taper holes and mounting surfaces need inspection for damage. Use a new Steering Knuckle to begin before installing both the lower Ball Joint and its retaining nut to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) torque. Next step is to attach the upper Ball Joint followed by the retaining nut which requires 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque. First fix the brake hose and bracket retaining bolt with 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) torque settings before connecting the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle. Then install the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly, reattach an rtd link rod to its sensor if present before installing the tire and wheel. Finish by loading the torsion bars, performing vehicle alignment, and lowering the vehicle.
