Multifunction Switch

The first step to changing the I/P dimmer switch is to take out the front overhead console. After that, remove the screws that hold the I/P dimmer switch to the overhead console and disconnect the electrical connector prior to taking the switch off. When reinstalling, attach the electrical connector andput the I/P dimmer switch screws into the overhead console,tightening each to 2 N.m (18 lb in), as explained in theFastener Notice from the Service Precautions. Lastly, put the front overhead console back onto the vehicle.

First disable SIR by following Zone 3 SIR Disabling and Enabling procedures prior to replacing the Multifunction Turn Signal Switch. Access the upper and lower trim covers after tilting the column to its CENTER position. The turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connectors need removal before you secure the assembly with two pan head tapping screws. Remove the assembly which contains the turn signal and multifunction switch. To install the new assembly position its electrical contact onto the turn signal cancel cam assembly before tightening the 2 pan head tapping screws. Tighten the screw on top of the column to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) and the front screw to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.). Complete the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly reconnection then replace upper and lower trim covers before activating SIR system following SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 requirements.

Before servicing the turn signal switch you must follow procedures under Zone 3 Air Bags and Seat Belts section to disable the SIR system. Tilt the steering column to center and detach its top and bottom covers. Detach the electrical links from the turn signal and multifunction switch piece while also removing both pan head tapping screws that secure it. Unplug the turn signal assembly from its multifunction switch base. Secure the electrical contact on top of the turn signal cancel cam assembly as you fasten the two pan head tapping screws. Secure the column top screw at 3 Nm and place the front screw at 7 Nm. Connect the components to their right places on both the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly while also attaching the trim covers followed by activating the SIR system for Zone 3 per Air Bag and Seat Belt procedures.

To replace the switch, gently pull down at the front end of the overhead console with your fingers, disconnect the connectors, and take out the console. The next action is to unscrew and take the rear window wiper switch out. Be sure to put the new switch in place first, and then attach the wiring connectors. Put the overhead console into the headliner space, check that the locking tabs sit in place, and press downward to fasten the console.

Attach the windshield wiper and washer switch to the steering column.

Route and connect the electrical connector from the switch, install the wiring harness tie straps, and replace the steering column trim covers.
