Oil Tube

The first task when replacing the oil level indicator and tube requires removal of the air cleaner assembly along with the engine cover. Begin by unfastening the single bolt that connects the two oil level indicator tubes followed by splitting the upper portion of the tube from the lower section. Clean the old adhesive from the tube surface. First extract the number 4 cylinder Spark Plug followed by the oil level indicator tube bolt before rotating the tube off the engine. Remove old sealer from each part of the oil level indicator tube as well as from the engine block surface. Attach the engine block oil level indicator tube before reinstalling the number 4 cylinder Spark Plug for the installation process. Use gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10954380) or equivalent as sealant and apply it to the end of the top oil level indicator tube before attaching both sections. Attach the engine oil level indicator tube to the transmission oil level indicator tube by fastening it with the provided bolt until it reaches 13 nm (106 inch lbs. Torque). The last step involves reinstallation of engine cover followed by installation of the air cleaner assembly.

A technician should start the process of engine oil dip stick and dip stick tube service and repair by removing both the engine cover alongside the bolt securing the coolant recovery reservoir. After removal, place the reservoir to the side. Detach the oil level indicator while removing its attaching screw and transmission fluid fill tube which holds it at the oil fill tube lower support. Take the tool to detach the upper segment of the oil level indicator tube from its base section and remove any residue of previous sealer from the tube. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt while extracting the tube from the engine with a twisting motion and clean both surfaces of the indicator and block from previous sealant residue. Begin installation by using gm p/n 12346004 or equivalent sealant which should be applied 13 mm (0.5 inch) beneath the tube bead before inserting the oil level indicator tube into the engine block through proper rotation. The upper oil level indicator tube needs sealer gm p/n 12346004 or equivalent around its fitting point with the lower half before upper and lower halves get connected together. The bolt for connecting the oil level indicator tube and transmission fluid fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support should be tightened to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Continue with the installation of the oil level indicator then put back the engine cover and place the coolant recovery reservoir in position before fastening it down with its bolt.

Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil and install it onto the lower oil level indicator tube.

Install the bolt that secures the Oil level indicator tube and the transmission fluid fill tube to the Oil fill tube lower support, tightening it to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).

Install the bolt that secures the oil level indicator tube and the transmission fluid fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support, tightening it to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).

Remove the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder and the oil level indicator tube bolt, then extract the oil level indicator tube from the engine using a twisting motion, ensuring to clean the old sealer from both the oil level indicator tube and the engine block.

Attach the oil level indicator tube to the engine block and reinstall the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder.

First, remove the air cleaner assembly and the retaining bolt for the coolant recovery reservoir, setting the reservoir aside.
