- Q: How to replace the inner tie rod on 2000 Buick LeSabre?A: Start the inner Tie Rod replacement by taking out both the Rack and Pinion Boot and breather tube before holding the rack securely to avoid damage during work. The shock dampener needs to come off the inner Tie Rod assembly so you can push it back along the rack. Insert two wrenches on the rack assembly flats and inner Tie Rod housing flats before counterclockwise rotation which frees the inner Tie Rod housing from the rack assembly. During assembly insert the shock dampener towards the front of the rack then secure the inner Tie Rod at 100 nm torque (74 ft. Lbs.). The attachment process requires a wrench on the rack assembly flats and a torque wrench on the inner Tie Rod housing flats. Lock the vise around the inner Tie Rod assembly before staking the assembly's two sides flat onto the rack surface. Both housing stakes need to be checked with a 0.25 mm gauge so that the feeler gauge cannot pass through the space between the rack and housing stake. Slide the shock dampener over the inner Tie Rod housing so that its front lip rests against the housing then reattach both Rack and Pinion Boot and breather tube.
