2000 Buick LeSabre Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end off (Quiet Valve/Magnasteer) on 2000 Buick LeSabre?
A: First use universal steering linkage puller tool (J24319-01) and remove the cotter pin and hex slotted nut from the outer tie rod assembly that is part of the quiet valve/magnasteer system. You must loosen the inner tie rod assembly jam nut before you remove the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle through the use of the same puller device. Remove the outer tie rod assembly from the inner tie rod assembly in the following procedure. Link the inner tie rod to the outer tie rod without tightening the jam nut first before you secure the outer tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle through the hex slotted nut attached to the outer tie rod stud . Torque the hex slotted nut to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) while aligning the cotter pin slot through additional 1/6 turn up to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.), without using the backing off method to place the cotter pin. Take the cotter pin into the tie rod stud opening before securing the 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.) torque on the hex jam nut across the outer tie rod.
