2000 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging System (J 39500-B) should be used first to recover refrigerant from the system before replacing the condenser. Start your installation sequence by first removing the upper filler panel followed by the hood latch support then the discharge hose fastener and finally disconnecting the discharge hose from the condenser. Start by disconnecting the condenser's suction hose fastener then detach the suction hose. Then unfasten the condenser mounting fastener. Remove the left condenser retention first from its retainer followed by the right retention before extracting the entire condenser out of the vehicle. When installing the right-side condenser into the retainer use the Electronic Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) before proceeding to install the left-side condenser. Place the condenser into position inside the vehicle before fastening and tightening (10 lb ft) the condenser mounting bolts to 13 N.m. Check all sealing washers for damage because a damaged washer needs replacement rather than lubrication. The evaporator hose must be connected to the condenser while the fastener must be tightened to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The discharge hose also requires a torque of 20 N.m (15 lb ft). After replacing the hood latch bracket and conducting the A/C system recharge and leak test you should install the upper filler panel.
