2000 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the brake line on 2000 Cadillac Seville?
A: A single tool necessary to work on brake hose/line repair is ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A). Replace brake pipes with double-walled steel sections since other types can harm brake safety. When replacing brake pipes route and hold them carefully while using the same hardware in its home locations to stop system and damage issues. Start your project by selecting proper sized steel fitting nuts and pipe based on the outside diameter measurement. Cut the new pipe into a square shape and set it at the correct length using a hacksaw. Measure the old pipe for size then add 3.2 mm (0.125 inch) for each ISO flare. Before flaring the pipes, fit the parts first and de-burr both their inner and outer surfaces with the tool. After removing all remaining lubricants from the brake pipe clamp the ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A) in a vise for assembly. Place the proper collet and forming mandrel in the kit before putting the mandrel set in its position. After placing the force screw in contact with the mandrel twist it backward by one total revolution. Place the clamping nut over the brake pipe and push the prepared pipe into the collet till 19 mm (0.750 inch) sticks out while keeping the pipe tail on the mandrel face. Screw the clamping nut tightly to keep the pipe from protruding before you wind the forcing screw until it rests firmly on its stop. Avoid excessive fastening to stop flare size overexpansion. Reverse the clamping nut as you remove the collet parts and check the flare diameter to meet the range of 6.92 mm to 7.28 mm (0.272 inch to 0.286 inch). The flare is ready to start using after completion. A tube bender should be used to create new pipe installation following the original path with at least 19 mm (0.75 inch) distance from moving parts, 13 mm (0.50 inch) from vibrating parts, and 7 mm (0.25 inch) space from shielded lines when not directly connected to a component.
