2000 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step for Brake Master Cylinder service involves creating plugs from a combination of one 11 x 1.5 mm tube fitting nut and one 12 x 1.0 mm tube fitting nut together with two 4.75 mm (0.187 inch) brake pipe pieces that measure 50 mm (1.969 inch) each. Slightly flatten a tube section extending 0.51 inches from the non-flared end by resting 0.51 inches at a 90-degree angle in a vise. After removing the tube from the vise, carefully bend it to form a tight seal with the tube end on itself. Install the handmade plugs into the master cylinder outlet ports but maintain a careful pressure on the vise because excessive force may destroy the components. Establish shop towels around the master cylinder to catch bleeding fluid before positioning it with built-in friction in a vise tilted slightly downward while adding clean brake fluid into the system. The Brake Master Cylinder releases air through its ports while resistance increases against the primary Piston causing it to stop short of its maximum travel distance of 25 mm (0.984 inch). Start by using a tool with a smooth and rounded end to stroke the primary Piston 25 mm (0.948 inch) multiple times before readjusting the master cylinder position in the vise and repeating the primary Piston stroke at the same length 25 mm (0.984 inch) several times. Sequentially remove each fabricated plug then push the primary Piston into the master cylinder bore while maintaining cylinder levelness. The prevention of entering air requires a tight closing of the fabricated plugs after the primary Piston reaches its starting position. Perform the preceding steps again until you see no leakage between the plugs before holding the master cylinder inside the automobile.
