2001 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step for servicing and repairing the Brake Master Cylinder requires securing the mounting flange to a bench vise so you can reach the rear of the primary Piston. Replace the master cylinder reservoir diaphragm and cap with fittings that have appropriate ports for hose attachment according to flare seat specifications. Through transparent hoses professionals should connect these fittings and direct them into the master cylinder reservoir. Delco supreme 11 (R) (GM P/N 12377967) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid should fill the reservoir at least half the way while using clean fluid from a sealed container to submerge the brake fluid hose ends. A round-ended tool should be used to press and release the primary Piston multiple times while watching fluid flow through the ports. Bleeding air from the pistons leads to an increase of primary Piston depressing effort while shortening its travel distance. This procedure should continue until the ports produce a steady fluid stream without any sign of air bubbles. Detach the transparent hoses from the reservoir before replacing the cap and diaphragm and unfastening the port fittings with hoses. Use shop cloth to wipe the master cylinder to stop any fluid leakage. Finish the process by taking the master cylinder out of the vise.
