2000 Chevrolet Impala Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Tools Are Required for Servicing and Repairing the Brake Line, Specifically for Brake Pipe and ISO Flare Replacement on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The following tools are necessary to service and repair the brake hose/line for brake pipe replacement alongside ISO flare replacement: ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A). ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A). Double-walled steel brake pipe should be used for all replacements since different types can result in brake system failure. Position your replacement brake pipes correctly while holding them in place to maintain original system alignment and prevent system failure through proper fastener usage. Avoid single lap flaring tools; System pressure requires double lap flaring tools to produce proper flares. To start the project obtain recommended tubing and steel fitting nuts of proper size then cut the tubing equal to the old pipe length supplemented by 3 mm (1/8 inch) extra for each ISO flare. Begin by installing tubing fittings before performing flaring operations then de-burr inside and outside diameters with a tool while cleaning all lubricants from brake pipe components and the flaring tool. Start by placing the flaring tool body into a vise then choose the appropriate collet and forming mandrel that fits the pipe size and place the forming mandrel into the tool body. When holding the mandrel thread the forcing screw until it touches the mandrel then readjust the screw by one full rotation counterclockwise. Slip the clamping nut over the brake pipe while having it fit into the chosen collet position remaining with 19 mm (3/4 inch) of tubing present. After placing the collet into the tool body position the brake pipe end to face the forming mandrel before securing the clamping nut tightly. When tightening the forcing screw use a wrench and stop before it reaches its complete depth to avoid creating an oversize flare. Remove the clamping nut from the tool body before you take apart the clamping nut together with the collet until the flare is prepared for its use. Next step is to form the pipe using the forming mandrel with enough space of 19 mm (3/4 inch) between each moving or vibrating component.
