2001 Chevrolet Impala Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the ISO Flaring Kit on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
A: You need the ISO Flaring Kit (0J29803-A) to replace brake pipe against system failures. Double-walled steel brake pipe is required at all times while installing. Start by acquiring the right tubing and steel fitting nuts followed by measuring the old pipe with a string then adding 3 mm (1/8 inch) for each ISO flare to determine the new pipe length. Put the fittings on the tubing first and then flare it while chamfering the pipe diameters with a de-burring tool. Put all lubricant away from brake pipe and flaring tool. Then place the flaring tool body in a vise for clamping. Place the correct size collet and forming mandrel on the tool body, put the forming mandrel in first, screw the forcing screw down until it meets the mandrel then reverse it one complete turn. Turn the clamping nut towards the brake pipe and place it into the collet so only 19 mm (3/4 inch) of the tubing remains. Position the collet on the tool body until the brake pipe meets the forming mandrel face then tighten the clamping nut. Turn the forcing screw after bottoming out and before overtightening. Twist the tool body from the threaded nut to remove both components. Use the tool with its prepared flare. Use the bent pipe shape from the old one and leave a 19 millimeter (3/4 inch) gap around all shaking parts.
