2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heater Core on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Starting the Heater Core replacement requires removing the air cleaner and duct assembly and if equipping with a 3.8l then you need to remove the fuel injector sight shield. You should drain cooling system fluid before removing heater hoses which attach to the Heater Core. Begin by unhooking both the lh and rh instrument panel insulators and proceed with taking off the lower floor console when it exists. Start by removing the bolts to set aside the hvac wiring harness bracket along with moving the heater outlet cover downward before disconnecting it from the rear area floor duct assembly. Take off the first set of screws that secure the heater outlet cover and then separate the cover and afterwards perform the same steps to release the Heater Core cover screws together with the cover itself. The technician should discard the Heater Core cover seals (1, 2, and 3) along with the Heater Core outer seal and lower seal and center seal and upper seal and side seals which are inside the hvac lower case. First loosen the Heater Core pipe retainer clamp screw and the Heater Core line clamp screw and the Heater Core retaining clamp before removing the Heater Core from the hoses between the hvac lower case and tube support bracket (clamp). The installation process should begin with Heater Core side seals placed in the hvac lower case before adding upper seal, center seal and lower seal. Place the Heater Core inside the hvac lower case along with the Heater Core tube support bracket (clamp). Secure the Heater Core line clamp screw with 1.5 n.m torque (13 lb in) and the Heater Core mounting clip screw at the same torque value. Secure the Heater Core outer seal to the Heater Core before installing new seals (1,2,3) into the Heater Core cover. Then attach the cover using its screws while torquing them to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Attach the Heater Core outlet cover along with its screws while tightening each component to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Reattach the hvac wiring harness bracket while securing its bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Continue by reinstalling the lower floor console if equipped and the lh and rh instrument panel insulators and reconnect the heater hoses at the Heater Core. The coolant recharge process requires completion followed by sight shield installation if the vehicle has 3.8l before reinstalling the air cleaner and duct assembly.
