2001 Buick Century Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat in a 3.1L engine on 2001 Buick Century?
A: In order to change the Thermostat of a 3.1l engine, it is necessary to remove the air cleaner and duct assembly and, then, partially drain the liquid coolant. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) at the Thermostat Housing to move the hose clamp to disconnect the Radiator Hose from the housing. Next, uninstall the Thermostat Housing attaching bolts, Thermostat Housing and gasket off, and then take out Thermostat. Clean the mating surfaces before an installation of the new Thermostat. Mount the Thermostat Housing and the gasket on the Intake Manifold, applying gm rtv sealer p/n 1052366 or equivalent to the bolts. Retighten the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), hook up the Radiator Hose again to the Thermostat Housing, and use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to reposition and reinstall the hose clamp. Lastly, replace the air cleaner and duct assembly, fill cooling system, and check for leaks.
