How to replace the thermostat on a 3.1L engine on Buick Century?

To substitute the Thermostat for a 3.1l motor, first you will have to remove the air cleaner intake duct and partially empty out the cooling system. Locate the compression needle for the hose reel (J 38185) in order to reposition it into the water hose housing, then remove the radiator water inlet needle from the water housing. Then, take out the bolts of the exhaust crossover pipe and water outlet housing, and remove the water outlet housing and gasket. Remove the Thermostat and clean and inspect the water outlet housing mating gasket surfaces. For installation it starts with the installation of the Thermostat, an installation of water outlet gasket, and installations of water outlet housing. Mount the water outlet housing bolts, torquing them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Refit the exhaust crossover pipe and the radiator inlet hose to the water outlet housing by using the hose clamppliers (J 38185) and reposition and fit the hose clamp. Lastly, reinstall the air cleaner intake duct and add fuel to the cooling system.
