• Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2003 Buick Century?

  A: In replacing the Thermostat; you first dismantle the air cleaner intake duct before draining it, half draining the cooling system. While using the hose clamp pliers, move the hose clamp from the water outlet housing to the new location, thereafter removing the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing. Next, take off the exhaust crossover pipe and the water outlet housing bolts, and then remove the water outlet housing along with the gasket. Remove the Thermostat and clean and check the area of immersion housing gasket mating surfaces. For its installation, start with the Thermostat, then install water outlet gasket, and water outlet housing. Install the water outlet housing bolts and wrench them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) then re-install the exhaust crossover pipe and the radiator inlet hose to the water outlet housing. Finally, using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), relocate and mount the hose clamp to the water outlet housing, and reinstall the air cleaner intake duct before you fill the cooling system.
