2001 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs and Shock Absorber on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: The necessary tools to service and repair suspension struts consist of a holding fixture (J3289-20), strut compressor (J34013-B), alignment rod (J34013-38) and a damper rod clamp (J34013-20). The required tools for suspension strut service and repairs include holding fixture (J3289-20) strut compressor (J34013-B) alignment rod (J34013-38) and damper rod clamp (J34013-20). Start by taking out the strut assembly from your car. The strut installation in the strut compressor (J34013-B) involves tightening the compressor forcing screw until the spring shows slight compression. The socket prevents rotation of the strut shaft while the retaining nut is removed. Use the alignment rod (J34013-38) to steer the strut shaft out from the assembly then turn the compressor screw counterclockwise until you can remove the strut assembly as a whole. Set the strut inside the strut compressor (J34013-B) while applying the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) on the strut shaft. Check that the flat on the upper spring seat should point outward from the vehicle's centerline before placing the bearing in the upper spring seat if it needed replacement. Keep the spring properly positioned on the strut before setting the assembly vertically inside the strut compressor while installing the upper locking pin. Connect the alignment rod (J34013-38) to the strut guide strut shaft before turning the compressor screw clockwise to guide the rod to the center strut shaft. Use the strut compressor to turn the forcing screw until the strut shaft threads show from the top of the assembly before installing both the washer and retaining nut. You should remove the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) then tighten the strut mount retaining nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) using your socket to hold the strut shaft. Reposition the strut into its designated location after removing it from the compressor unit.
