- Q: How to replace the Front Exhaust Pipe on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?A: The first step to replace the front Exhaust Manifold pipe requires safety measures for both hot exhaust systems and exhaust part removal. Commence work by taking out the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe as well as the transaxle assembly. First disconnect both left Exhaust Manifold securing bolts from the front Exhaust Manifold pipe before detaching the bolt that joins the front Exhaust Manifold pipe to the crankcase. Rotate the two bolts away from the front Exhaust Manifold pipe to free both the coil cassette ground wire from the Cylinder Head and the front Exhaust Manifold pipe from the Cylinder Head. Note that the egr valve inlet pipe uses a crush seals connection for the water crossover so it demands new replacement if you need to disconnect it. Entities must first disconnect the egr inlet pipe nut from the front Exhaust Manifold pipe then detach the front Exhaust Manifold pipe including its seal from the left Exhaust Manifold while discarding the original seal for a new one. The retention part of the Exhaust Manifold flange should be taken out. To mount the components start by placing the new retainer with the front Exhaust Manifold pipe seal onto the left Exhaust Manifold before inserting the Exhaust Manifold pipe. Attach bolts (1, 3) onto the front Exhaust Manifold pipe to mount to the engine while torquing support bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reattach the Cylinder Head ground wire coil cassette nut by hand (to a torque of 17 Nm (13 ft. Lbs.)). You should also install two bolts on the front Exhaust Manifold pipe that fastens it to the left Exhaust Manifold. Torque these bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Twist the egr inlet pipe nut to the front Exhaust Manifold pipe by hand in order to prevent cross-threading before you tighten it up to 60 nm torque (44 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the transaxle assembly together with the rear Exhaust Manifold pipe to conclude the transmission replacement.
