A vehicle must be raised into position for beginning the replacement of the rear exhaust manifold pipe. First detach the four nuts which fasten the Catalytic Converter to the exhaust manifold rear pipe. Moving the exhaust system to the rear will help the studs in front of the Catalytic Converter to safely pass by the exhaust manifold rear pipe. The removal of the Catalytic Converter gasket requires discarding it permanently. Detach the exhaust manifold rear pipe by removing two bolts which connect it to each of the right exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold front pipe. After separating the exhaust manifold rear pipe with its gasket you should discard it and also remove both the exhaust manifold pipe seal from the exhaust manifold front pipe and the exhaust manifold flange seal retainer from the front pipe. You must position new components: an exhaust manifold pipe seal and exhaust manifold flange seal retainer onto the exhaust manifold rear pipe flange before you insert the two retaining bolts into the retainer which will finger-tighten to secure the seals and retainer in position. The project requires installation of a new gasket onto the flange followed by insertion of the two retaining bolts through the flange into the gasket. Extend the exhaust manifold rear pipe toward the front and right exhaust manifold after wrapping it around the exhaust manifold front pipe. Secure a total of four bolts which connect the exhaust manifold rear pipe to the right exhaust manifold while tightening them to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) before tightening the bolts securing the rear pipe to exhaust manifold flange seal retainer to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install a new gasket onto the Catalytic Converter studs before positioning the converter at the exhaust manifold rear pipe. Secure it with four nuts that need to be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
