• Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: First to drain the engine oil out, remove the front exhaust manifold pipe to replace the Oil Pan. Start by removing the electrical connector from the engine oil level sensor and take the sensor out from the Oil Pan. The next step is the removal of the Oil Pan bolts and the Oil Pan removal, discarding the gasket, if available. Make sure you clean and inspect the Oil Pan before installation. For installation use the en 46109 guide pins (EN 46109) to prevent the shifting of the Oil Pan, fill the Oil Pan seal groove with a continuous bead of rtv sealant gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) or equivalent and that the bead is 3mm (0.118 in) higher than the Oil Pan sealing surface. Mount the Oil Pan on the lower crankcase and bare several Oil Pan bolts loosely removing the en 46109. Loosely install the rest of the bolts and install them following the sequence recommended, first up to 8 nm (71 inch lbs) and then up to 12 nm (106 inch lbs). Clean off any excessive sealant, then connect the electrical connector back to the engine oil level sensor, then refit the front exhaust manifold pipe, fill in the engine oil and finally check for oil leaks after the engine is started up.
