2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Before working on the back brake pads you need to examine the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Keep the fluid at midpoint when it is between maximum and minimum lines. Lift up the vehicle then let it rest on jack stands. Take off both the tire and wheel assembly at the back. Position a hand-tightened lug nut to hold the rotor on the hub before pressing the caliper Piston out to create space using a c-clamp tool. Move the upper caliper bolt slowly without breaking the the pin boot so you can depress the caliper down for pad access without complete removal. Take the brake pads from the caliper bracket and remove its two clips. Check the mounting hardware for damage and replace it with new parts. If needed, change the caliper dust boot which shows signs of wear. Also examine caliper bolts for rust or harm and replace them with new parts when corrosion is detected. Use a c-clamp and wood or Brake Pad to lower Piston into bore before installing it onto the caliper apply the retainers to the caliper bracket with the wear sensor lying at the back of outside pad when the wheel turns ahead. Move the caliper up between pad 9 and 10 that are attached to the bracket. Put silicone grease on the upper bolt and boot before attaching the bolt into position at 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Replace the rotor-lodged wheel nuts then apply the tire and wheel assembly onto the marked hub before lowering the vehicle. After shutting down the engine apply the Brake Pedal gently to 2/3 of its range and let go before repeating this until you feel a strong Brake Pedal which will properly place brake caliper parts. Top off the brake fluid into the master cylinder reservoir then smooth down Brake Pad and rotor surfaces.
