2001 GMC Savana 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2001 GMC Savana 3500?
A: Before running any sensor replacement it is crucial to turn off the ignition then uninstall the engine cover. Produce a cmp sensor electrical connector disconnect followed by removing Spark Plug Wires and the ignition coil wire from the Distributor. Start by unscrewing the Distributor cap screws and removing it from its position and disconnecting the rotor screws and rotor from its place. Insert the square slot of the reluctor wheel into the cmp sensor followed by removing its screws to extract the cmp sensor. New threads screws of gm p/n 10475922 (pkg of 10 screws) for Distributor cap and cmp sensor need to be used instead of reused screws during installation. Apply this thread locking compound on these replacement screws before assembly. The cmp sensor needs to pass through the reluctor wheel slot which contains the square opening. Install new cmp sensor mounting screws while applying 2.2 n.m (20 lb in) torque on them. Check for damage in the locating tabs of the rotor since improper alignment can occur if the tabs are broken. Replace the rotor if necessary. Fasten the rotor onto the reluctor wheel by using new rotor screws that need to be tightened to 2.2 n.m (20 lb in). The installation of the Distributor cap requires new screws which must be tightened to 2.2 n.m (20 lb in). Reinstall the engine cover after connecting the cmp sensor electrical connector plus Spark Plug Wires together with the ignition coil wire.
