  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?
    A: In order to replace the front brake hose, raise and support the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel assembly. Also, clean the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings and remove dirt and foreign material, and install a rubber cap or plug on the exposed brake pipe fitting to minimize brake fluid loss and contamination. Next, unbolt the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, by removing the brake hose retainer with a flat-bladed tool, and then pull out the brake hose from the bracket. Take the brake hose bolt off the brake caliper and the hose itself, throwing away the two copper brake hose gaskets which could be sticking to the end of the hose or caliper. Put a rubber plug on the brake hose bolt hole of the caliper to avoid losing liquid. Take away the hose bracket bolt from strut assembly and remove the hose. For the purpose of installation, you should remove first the rubber plug of the bolt hole of the caliper, and make sure you use a new copper brake hose gaskets. Mount the brake hose bolt with new gasket and mount to the brake caliper, tighten to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs) while making sure that isn't twisted or kinked. Connect the brake hose to the bracket, fasten the brake hose retainer and remove the rubber cap or plug from the end of the brake pipe fitting. Attach the brake pipe fitting to the hose, and tighten to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.), and reinstall the hose bracket and bolt to the strut assembly, tightening the bolt to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Finally, bleed the brake caliper at the bleeder screw, put back tire and wheel assembly, and lower the vehicle.
