2002 Cadillac Eldorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: The Steering Knuckle replacement process begins with vehicle support followed by wheel and tire separation then elimination of the bearing assembly and hub. When replacing the Steering Knuckle landlords should first disconnect the outer Tie Rod End at the Steering Knuckle and also remove the road sensing suspension sensor link. Start by removing both parts of the lower ball joint. First remove the cotter pin followed by the retaining nut. The j 36226 ball joint separator (J 36226) disengages the Steering Knuckle from the lower Control Arm before removing the strut to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts and nuts and extracting the Steering Knuckle. Start the installation process by placing the new Steering Knuckle then fasten it with strut to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts and nuts. After connecting the lower ball joint to the Steering Knuckle install the lower ball joint retaining nut to a torque of 10 nm (7 lb-in) while adding an additional 150 degrees (2 1/2 flats) of rotation followed by an additional 60 degrees for proper cotter pin alignment. Link the road sensing suspension position sensor to the lower Control Arm then fasten the new cotter pin before reconnecting the Steering Knuckle to the outer Tie Rod End. When finished replace the Wheel Bearing together with the hub assembly and tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle. Vehicle technicians need to use the following tools for this operation: j 36226 ball joint separator (J 36226), j 35551 ball stud nut wrench (J 35551), and j 24319-b tie rod remover (J 24319-B).
