- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2003 Buick Rendezvous?A: Before replacing the front brake caliper check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. Lower the fluid to the halfway point if it is above the mid level. Lift the vehicle and take off its tire and wheel. Fasten two nuts to hold the rotor in place on the hub while a large c-clamp pushes the Brake Caliper Piston into its bore through the space between the caliper and the back of the outboard Brake Pad until the caliper slides off the rotor. Take out the brake hose bolt and brake hose from the caliper assembly while discarding the two stuck copper brake hose gaskets attached to the components. Insert plugs to seal the brake caliper outlets before you clean around the brake hose fitting. When you notice brake caliper bolts undergoing damage or exposure to corrosion replace them at once alongside Brake Caliper Bolt and bracket boots since repair cannot save them from harm. First install both ends of the caliper bolt boots before attaching the caliper to the bracket and oiling the bolt shaft only. Use the flat-bladed tool to install the caliper bracket boot over the caliper bolt shoulder before tightening the brake caliper bolts to 35 nm. Insert fresh copper brake hose gaskets on both ends before assembling the brake hose bolt with its gaskets into place using 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) torque. Replace the rotor-hub fasteners before adding the tire and wheel while lower the car and refill the brake master cylinder. Afterwards tighten the brake pedal with 778 nm (175 ft. Lbs.) force for ten seconds and examine the brake caliper and hydraulic system for leaks.
