2003 Cadillac CTS Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate parking brake cable on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: Replace the intermediate park brake cable only after the park brake has been released and then the vehicle must be raised and supported. The first step is to reduce the length of the intermediate park brake cable at its location near the park brake connector before removing it from the connector. The Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) helps operators to melt the locking retainer of the intermediate park brake cable housing for floor pan bracket removal. The installation begins with removal of the park brake cable guide nut from its mounting stud then the park brake cable guide bolt from the floor pan before finally extracting the park cable guides. The procedure ends with the intermediate cable disconnection from both the rear equalizer and the right rear park brake cable connector as well as separation of the intermediate cable housing from the rear cable housing retaining bracket after unlocking its retainer. Take out the intermediate cable which is now detached from the vehicle. The installation process requires a proper routing and fitting of the intermediate park brake cable into the park brake cable retaining bracket for correct positioning. The right rear parking brake cable connector must be connected to the intermediate park brake cable after which the intermediate cable should be linked to the equalizer. Begin installation with the park cable guides and continuing by installing the park brake cable guide bolt onto the floor pan while tightening it to 10 N.m (88 in lb), then attach the park brake cable guide nut to the mounting stud before also tightening it to 10 N.m (88 in lb). The intermediate park brake cable housing should be connected to the floor pan bracket while also confirming that the housing retainer stays properly positioned. The front end of the intermediate park brake cable should be inserted into the cable retaining bracket before locking it while establishing a connection to the park brake cable connector. Repeat the park brake pedal motion one to two times when lowering the vehicle to check for proper seating of the park brake cable retainers.
