- Q: How to replace the left wiper arm on 2003 Cadillac CTS?A: Before replacing the left Wiper Arm you must park the wipers and open the hood. Ensure the driver side wiper sits along the orange line at the lower central part of windshield, and the passenger side wiper lines up with the orange dot on the right lower windshield tip. Take off the caps before loosening Wiper Arm nuts (3,6) and unscrew the nuts from the Wiper Arm drive spindle. Apply light force when the hood assist rod reaches its final position to prevent damage. When taking out the driver Wiper Arm first remove the upper hood assist rods from their ball studs. Pull the hood back toward the air inlet grille and brace the hood parts. To repair the Wiper Arm problems use the Wiper Arm puller tool j 39822 to detach the unresponsive Wiper Arm from its spindle. Brush the drive spindle knurls with a wire brush and detach the Wiper Blade from the Wiper Arm. To install wipers position the passenger side arm until the blade tip touches the orange dot and the driver side arm until the blade tip matches the orange line. Fitting the Wiper Arm onto the drive spindle requires you to place the proper bolt at its designated spot, then tighten the nut (3.6) to 35 nm (26 lb ft) using a spanner to hold the Wiper Arm in place. Put the ball end of the upper hood assist rods through ball stud slots and test wiper movement by ensuring the driver wiper follows only the wipe area.
