2003 Cadillac DeVille Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads (J55) on 2003 Cadillac DeVille?
A: To install the front brake pads (J55), begin with checking the brake master cylinder reservoir for fluid level; if it is in the middle between maximum-full and the minimum acceptable level, then there is no need to dispense any fluid, but if higher, bring it down to the middle point. Lift and hold the automobile with the help of jack stands, and note the position of the wheel in relation to the axle's flange before taking off the tire/wheel assembly. Grab a large c-clamp and put the ends on the back of the caliper body-on the outside of the Brake Pad and tighten it down until the calipers pistons can move out of the way of the brake rotor. Unscrew the c-clamp, brake caliper pin bolts with the hydraulic flexible brake being supported by heavy mechanic's wire to avoid hydraulic brake hose hook damage. Pivot the caliper up without removing the hose, then have someone else use another large c-clamp with an old inner Brake Pad or tiny wood block in contradiction of the caliper pistons to squish them completely. Treat the caliper for any damage; remove the c-clamp and old Brake Pad or a wood block, then remove the inboard and outboard brake pads from the caliper mounting bracket and inspect Brake Pad retainers. Regarding installation, inspect the brake caliper bolt suspension boots and replace if required, inspect the pin bolts for rust and replace where necessary, and check the piston boot for deterioration. Mount the Brake Pad retainers into the caliper bracket, flip the caliper down onto the new brake pads and put a light coat of high-temperature silicone lube on the front brake caliper pin bolts. Replace the lower brake caliper pin bolt and replace the pin bolting to 113 nm (83 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, lower your vehicle, and with the engine turned off, gradually press the brake pedal to 2/3 of its travel, and then slowly release (Jerry & Charles 16). Wait 15 seconds and do this process until a firm brake pedal attained which will properly seat the caliper pistons and brake pads. Finally, top up the brake master cylinder reservoir to the right level, and burnish the pads and rotors.
