2004 Buick LeSabre Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2004 Buick LeSabre?
A: The following tools are required to service or repair suspension struts: holding fixture (J3289-20), strut compressor (J34013-B), alignment rod (J34013-38) and damper rod clamp (J34013-20). You'll need a holding fixture (J3289-20), strut compressor (J34013-B), alignment rod (J34013-38), and damper rod clamp (J34013-20). Set the strut assembly inside strut compressor (J34013-B) before twisting the forcing screw to slightly compress the spring. Use a socket to stop the strut shaft from rotating before unscrewing the strut shaft retaining nut. Begin by installing the alignment rod (J34013-38) as you loosen the compressor screw until you can remove the spring and strut from the assembly. Set the strut inside the strut compressor (J34013-B) and fasten the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) to the strut shaft while facing the flat side of the upper spring seat outward from the vehicle's centerline. Reinstall any removed bearing onto the upper spring seat in its original position when connecting the strut mount. Place the spring onto the strut before using the strut compressor to move the assembly into a vertical position then install the upper locking pin. The alignment rod (J34013-38) needs to be inserted into the strut guide strut shaft and the compressor screw needs to be turned clockwise as the rod guides to the center strut shaft until the strut shaft threads become visible. Hook up the strut washer along with the retaining nut then apply torque to the strut mount retaining nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) but maintain direct contact with the strut shaft through the socket. The last step involves taking out the damper rod clamp (J34013-20) from the shaft then removing the strut from the compressor before installing back into the vehicle.
