2004 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?
A: First turn OFF ignition before raising the vehicle to remove left front wheel and left front fascia extension. The cleaning of the area around the ABS Control Module must happen before starting the ABS component removal process to protect against contamination. Next step is to wash away all contaminants from and around the ABS Control Module. Disable the ABS Control Module connector position assurance from the ABS Control Module electrical connector while rotating the connector tab until it reaches the unlocked position. You should disconnect or reconnect the wiring harness from the ABS Control Module only when the ignition switch remains off because equipment damage will occur. First disconnect both the ABS Control Module electrical connector and the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) pump motor harness pigtail electrical connector from the ABS Control Module unit before removing the 6 ABS Control Module to BPMV screws while cleaning the surface of the ABS Control Module/BPMV assembly. The unit cannot undergo repairs therefore replacement becomes the solution when the ABS Control Module shows failure. The BPMV and ABS Control Module must be separated before separation. Before assembly begin by cleaning the BPMV seal surface and then apply the ABS Control Module to BPMV while torquing the 6 screws to 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.). Attach the BPMV pump motor harness pigtail electrical connector and repeat the caution against wiring harness connection or disconnection when the ignition switch is ON position. Insert the ABS Control Module electrical connector into the ABS Control Module before rotating its tab downward to lock position followed by installing the ABS Control Module connector position assurance to the ABS Control Module electrical connector. Place the left front fascia extensions back and reattach the left front wheel onto the vehicle while lowering it to the ground. When an unprogrammed ABS Control Module gets installed it leads to non-operational or poorly performing DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES/VES system components (if equipped) along with the activation of DTC C1248 ABS Control Module Turned On the Red Brake Warning Indicator and DTC C1255m3 ABS Control Module Internal Malfunction. Any replacement ABS Control Module must receive programming using the most current software that matches the vehicle specifications and your local dealer should handle this programming procedure. The scan tool can finish the process by clearing DTCs then performing the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
