2004 Cadillac DeVille Seat Motor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front seat motor for the power recliner on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Replacing the power recliner motor from the front seat requires starting the process by removing the front bucket seat. Start by taking off the seat back trim cover followed by the removal of the push pin retainer at the lower seat belt retractor trim cover edge. The rear portion of the lower seat belt retractor holds a trim cover that should be released before removal. First disconnect the electrical connector for the recliner motor before pulling out its retainer clip at the motor end of the recliner shaft to allow removing the recliner shaft outward from the motor (outboard side) beyond the recliner motor and sensor, if equipped. The electrical connector for the recliner motor and the recliner sensor require disconnection underneath the seat while the recliner sensor gets released from the recliner motor. The recliner motor requires its fastener removed before being extracted from the seat back frame. A correct installation requires placing the recliner motor on its intended seat back frame position before installing the recliner motor fastener a minimum of 9 N.m (80 lb in). First connect the recliner motor electrical connector and then install the recliner sensor onto the recliner motor while ensuring proper snap fit. Install the recliner sensor if present followed by the recliner motor after feeding the recliner shaft into place. When using a recliner sensor, establish its electrical connection. Put the retaining clip on the recliner shaft after which the seat back trim cover and the lower seat belt retractor trim cover must be installed together with the push pin fastener. The front bucket seat should be reinstalled after performing a seat calibration.
