The replacement process for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve starts with disconnecting the egr electrical connector and then removing the heat shield nuts before extracting the heat shield itself. Before proceeding with the replacement inspect the egr passages inside the crossover water pump housing for deposits and clean them as necessary. After that take out the EGR Valve retaining nuts/bolts. The EGR Valve operation requires cleaning of the mounting area before adding a new gasket to install the EGR Valve. The EGR Valve retaining nuts/bolts should be tightened to 24 nm (18 lb ft) before securing the heat shield and its installation nuts to 9 nm (80 lb in). The final step involves connecting again the electrical connector of the EGR Valve.
