2004 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Steering Angle Sensor on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
A: In servicing and repairing the Steering Angle Sensor, first recognize the type of sensor from the illustrations before detaching. Make sure to check the sensors, where the front of the sensor connector will be on the right side. If the reused of the existing sensor is used, centering is not necessary before the removal. Deficient the sensor connector, pull out the sensor out from the adapter and bearing assembly. When fitting, ensure the front of the sensor has the following: a foam ring, a pin hole centering and a flush rotor flange cuff. In case of reuse of the sensor clean the sensor with hot soapy water or alcohol and if the sensor is to be reused, mark the rotor flange cuff before removal to avoid misaligning during the replacement. In relation to installation, align the sensor with the Steering Shaft, and connect it to the adapter and bearing assembly, and ensure that the connector is correctly connected. The front of the sensor will have the raised rotor flange cuff. An alignment mark and a pin hole will be present. Do the same for the removal and installation of the sensor at and as necessary, not forgetting to keep track of the peculiarities of the sensor in every step, such as the alignment marks and pin holes for correct centering. In a situation where you will install a new sensor, it will have a pin which should not be touched until it is installed. If the new sensor is not pinning, replace it with a new sensor. Always make sure that the alignment marks are kept until the full seating of the sensor into the assembly is achieved.
