Position Sensor

Replace the Steering Angle Sensor after you disable the sir system. Begin by taking off the Steering Column from your vehicle followed by these components from the Steering Shaft: boot seal as well as Steering Shaft seal then sensor retainer and finally sensor locator. The mounting process requires installation of the boot seal alongside the Steering Shaft seal and sensor retainer and sensor locator. After the Steering Angle Sensor removal completes move onto your next step. Install the Steering Angle Sensor by positioning it to the center of the Steering Shaft before adding the sensor locator, sensor retainer, Steering Shaft seal, and boot seal. Reinstall the Steering Column afterward to complete the process followed by sir system activation.

To service and repair the Steering Angle Sensor you will need to first determine the type of steering wheel position sensor as shown from the offered illustrations. Check the type of sensor, indicating that the front of the sensor will be on the right. There is no need for the centering if the existing sensor is used for reuse. Disconnect sensor connector and remove the sensor from the adapter and bearing assembly. When installing the sensor, there should be a front that comes with a foam ring, a pin hole for the centering pin, and a flush rotor flange cuff . In case of reuse of the sensor, draw an alignment mark on the rotor flange cuff before removing to avoid misalignment during installation. For a new sensor, it will be with a pin installed; be sure not to remove it until it is in the sensor. Position the sensor beside the Steering Shaft and fasten it to the adapter and bearing assembly, as well as connect the sensor. The front side of the sensor will have a pin hole, a raised rotor flange cuff, and an alignment mark for installation. If reusing the existing sensor ensure that the marks on the raised rotor flange cuff are aligned. Follow the installation process for each sensor and verify the alignment marks and other features, including the foam ringand double d flats on the back of the sensor for correct installation.

Disabling the sir system should be your first step before you replace the Steering Angle Sensor. The next action is to take the Steering Column out of the vehicle. Then, unscrew and take away the boot seal, Steering Shaft seal, sensor retainer, and sensor locator from the Steering Shaft. After doing this, pull out the Steering Angle Sensor. For installation, fit the new Steering Angle Sensor onto the Steering Shaft, then go on to install the sensor locator, sensor retainer, Steering Shaft seal, and boot seal. Reattach the Steering Column to the car and make sure to enable the sir system.

Service of the Steering Angle Sensor and steering shaft lower bearing requires disabling the sir system first. Next remove the Steering Column from the vehicle before dismantling the following elements from the steering shaft: boot seal, steering shaft seal, sensor retainer, sensor locator, and Steering Angle Sensor. The boot seal, steering shaft seal, sensor retainer, sensor locator, and Steering Angle Sensor are all needed for this task. Installation begins with the Steering Angle Sensor being placed onto the steering shaft followed by sensor locator then sensor retainer and steering shaft seal before boot seal is installed. Complete vehicle assembly requires putting back the Steering Column along with sir system re-enablement.

In order to replace the Steering Angle Sensor (with JL7), first turn off the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Check that the front wheels are straight ahead and lock the steering wheels by using the steering column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) to avoid rotation that may cause damage to the sir system. Remove the driver knee bolster bracket. Remove the upper intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and nut and then remove the upper intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering column. First, disconnect the Steering Angle Sensor electrical connector, then next, remove the Steering Shaft lower bearing seal retainer, then next, unclip the Steering Angle Sensor to slide it off the Steering Shaft. For installation, self align the alignment shaft on the new Steering Angle Sensor to guide it into place on Steering Shaft making sure that lock tabs are locked. Remove the Steering Shaft lower bearing seal retainer and connect the upper intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering column. Fix in position the upper intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and nut with a tightening torque of 47 nm (35 lb ft). Reconnect Steering Angle Sensor electrical connector, reinstall driver knee bolster bracket, remove the anti rotation pin (J 42640), and lastly, you enable the sir system.

Start the Steering Angle Sensor service by checking sensor type while placing the front connector side at the right due to orientation. Separate the sensor and connector from its adapter and bearing assembly. When keeping the current sensor make an alignment mark on the flush rotor flange cuff during removal to stop alignment issues when reinstallation occurs. The new sensor ships with a preinstalled pin that users must leave in position until sensor embedding. Keep the sensor's pin inside until you have properly placed the sensor. Set the sensor to match the Steering Shaft before installing it within the adapter and bearing assembly while maintaining proper alignment through flush rotor flange cuff marks until final sensor seat position. Connect the sensor by ensuring the front displays a foam ring and a pin hole along with a flushed rotor flange cuff containing an alignment mark. The back sensor features double d flats while also including a foam ring and an alignment tab. Install each new sensor following the above sequence while maintaining records of distinct features such as alignment marks and pin holes because these will aid future installation.

Once you want to replace the Steering Angle Sensor, you must first disable the sir system and remove the Steering Column from the vehicle. Then, remove the steering shaft seal and the retainer for the sensor. If the sensor is meant to be reused, it must possibly be centered before removal. Make way to get the sensor assembly out along with the lower spring retainer and the adapter and bearing assembly. For installation, connect the adapter and bearing assembly to the steering shaft assembly and then install the lower spring retainer onto it. Centre the sensor assembly prior to installing it and rotate steering shaft assembly to 12 o'clock before installing it. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.

Reinstall the steering column into the vehicle and enable the SIR system.

The boot seal, the steering shaft seal, the sensor retainer, and the sensor locator should be detached.

Remove the steering wheel position sensor and the adapter and bearing assembly from the steering jacket assembly.

Remove the steering wheel position sensor and the adapter and bearing assembly.

Next, remove the steering column from the vehicle.

First, disable the SIR system by following the appropriate procedures for Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.

Disconnect the steering wheel position sensor electrical connector.

Align the sensor with the steering shaft and connect it to the adapter and bearing assembly, ensuring the connector is properly attached.

Take off the boot seal, steering shaft seal, sensor retainer, and sensor locator from the steering shaft.

Take out the steering shaft seal.

The steering shaft assembly should be rotated to the 12 o'clock position.

Identify the type of sensor from the provided illustrations before removal.

Rotate the steering shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.
