- Q: How to replace the Steering Angle Sensor (with JL7) on 2009 Cadillac STS?A: Using jl7 to replace the Steering Angle Sensor requires first disabling the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Apply the Steering Wheel to face direct forward before jamming the Steering Column access hole with an anti-rotation pin (J 42640). First disconnect the driver knee bolster bracket before taking out the upper intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and nut for separating the upper intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column. First disconnect the sensor's electrical connection before removing the Steering Shaft lower bearing seal retainer and unfastening the Steering Angle Sensor so you can pull it off the Steering Shaft. Use the alignment shaft from the new Steering Angle Sensor to position this sensor correctly on the Steering Shaft before locking the tabs in place. Reinstall the Steering Shaft lower bearing seal retainer then connect the upper intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column. Torque the upper intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and nut to 47 nm (35 lb ft). The Steering Angle Sensor electrical connector goes back into place. Then the driver knee bolster bracket must be reinstalled. Finally remove the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) before allowing the sir system to activate.
