2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: When dealing with the wiring harness connector to change the ABS Control Module (ABSCM) ensure the ignition switch remains set to OFF due to the prevention of ABSCM/EBTCM harm. First you must clean the ABSCM space which extends to the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV). Unfasten the electrical Connector Position Assurance (CPA) locking tab which connects to the sliding cover lock tab after pressing down the lock tab to enable slidable connector opening. Remove the electrical harness connector from the ABSCM before disconnecting the four ABSCM-to-BPMV retention bolts while making sure to prevent both components from separating or damaging solenoids. The BPMV requires cleaning its sealing surface with denatured alcohol and a clean shop cloth and the ABSCM seal and its sealing surface need cleaning when reinstalling. Install the ABSCM to the BPMV electrical terminals with proper alignment followed by tightening the 4 retaining bolts at 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) using a cross-pattern. The ABSCM electrical harness connector should be mounted then the sliding cover should be secured by depressing the cover lock tab and engaging the CPA locking tab. After completing the installation of the ABSCM device customers should switch their ignition to ON position and conduct the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
