2004 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the underhood fuse box on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The underhood electrical center or junction block will need new installation by initially disconnecting both negative and positive battery cables from underhood Fuse block terminals. The tape must be gently removed from the wiring harness base and you need to use a small flat-bladed tool to release the underhood Fuse block(s) clip retainers. Detach all Fuse block(s) and wiring harness from the base while you remove the nuts that hold the underhood Fuse block base to its shock tower position. A small flat-bladed tool will help you remove underhood Fuse block front terminal positive assurance retainers as well as plastic shields from Battery Cable and buss bar terminals. First remove the bolts which secure the buss bar jumper bar then take off the jumper bar together with Fuse block(s). The buss bar terminal release tabs become accessible when fuses are removed from Fuse block(s) and a terminal releasing tool is used to extract the buss bar(s) with downward and outward motions. Free the clip retainers from the underhood Fuse block(s) Battery Cable and buss bar terminals before pulling them out from the Fuse block. Remove the entire Fuse block together with lamp wiring harness from the vehicle if needed. To install the underhood Fuse block(s) component place the Battery Cable and buss bar terminals and move them until they reach full seat position before securing the buss bar(s) within the Fuse block(s). Negative assurance retainers go into the underhood Fuse block terminals first followed by installing the previous Fuse removals. Tighten the jumper bar bolts of the buss bar to 9 n.m (80 lb in) when you reestablish the bar connection to the Fuse block(s). Complete the process by positioning underhood Fuse block(s) within base retaining locks while pressing for full security and pressing plastic shields onto Battery Cable and buss bar terminals until they reach full seating. The wiring harness must receive new tape at its base before putting the underhood Fuse block base against the shock tower and installing nuts while tightening these to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The procedure ends with attaching positive battery cables to underhood Fuse block components before tightening nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The negative Battery Cable will also get reinstalled afterwards.
