2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Fuel Injector Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to clean fuel injectors on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: A complete set of cleaning tools consists of the following: Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapters (J 37287), Fuel Injector Cleaner (J 38500-A), 3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter (J 42873-1), 5/16 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter (J 42873-2), 3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter (J 42964-1) and 5/16 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter (J 42964-2). Top-Engine Cleaner (GM P/N 12346535 for US dealers or Canadian P/N 992872 for Canadian dealers) serves as the sole approved cleaning agent when performing this task under strict conditions which exclude adding it to the fuel tank and limit concentration to 10 percent. A total amount of 960 ml cleaning solution needs preparation using normal unleaded gasoline to fill up the injector cleaning tank. The procedure requires you to disable fuel pump operations followed by disconnecting fuel lines properly after plugging them securely. The cleaning tool needs fuel rail connection before pressure activation and engine operation until it stalls. Once the tool is disconnected rejoin the fuel lines then let the engine run an extra 2 minutes. The Injector Balance Test must be performed before exchanging any defective injectors which exhibit more than 15 kPa (2 psi) pressure loss. The last step requires adding one ounce of Port Fuel Injector Cleaner (GM P/N 12345104 or Canadian P/N 10953467) per tank-gallon to prevent future problems when you should use this regularly. Test the vehicle on the road to verify the customer concern has been addressed.
