How to replace the rear trunk latch on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?

Before you start use the rear compartment lid and endgate opening. Open the rear compartment lid and lower the endgate first so you can reach the latch which you need to mark with a pencil before removing it. Regulate tension on the cable and detach the electrical connector for the rear compartment lid if your vehicle has this feature. Detach the removables and instantly pull the latch out of its place without disconnecting the latch release cable. Put the electrical connector of the new latch into the body opening then link the latch release cable before putting the latch on and fitting it correctly at the marked spot. Fasten the parts in place with 10 n.m torque before reattaching the electrical connector on the disabled vehicle. Pull the latch cable into place before realigning the back storage compartment and fitting the endgate panel. Finally put the rear compartment lid back on.
