  • Q: How to replace the thermostat housing on 2005 Cadillac XLR?
    A: To get to the Thermostat Housing, flush the cooling system and the air outlet duct. Use the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to disconnect the heater hose from the Thermostat Housing and then disconnect the coolant Radiator Hose. Finally, remove Thermostat Housing bolts and keep the Thermostat Housing and the Thermostat out of the engine front cover. Remove the old seal ring and put on a new one around the Thermostat. Install the Thermostat and new seal ring into the Thermostat Housing followed by the attachment of the Thermostat Housing assembly on the engine front cover. Install housing bolts for the Thermostat and tighten to 20 nm (15 ft lbs.). Reposition the Radiator Hose over the Thermostat Housing, secure with the hose clamp pliers (J 38185), then attach a heater hose to the Thermostat Housing using the same tool. Lastly, install back the air outlet duct and complete the cooling system.
