2005 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2005 Cadillac XLR?
A: The procedure for Radiator replacement requires recovery of a/c system refrigerant followed by draining of the cooling system liquid. By using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) you must disengage tension from the Radiator inlet hose clamp at the Radiator before you disconnect the inlet hose from the Radiator. Repetition with the same method enables separation between the engine and Radiator inlet hose while removing the hose at the engine. Lift the cooling fan and shroud assembly to release the tabs from their slots before separating this assembly from the Radiator. The surge tank inlet hose at the Radiator requires repositioning through use of hose clamp pliers (J 38185) while the hose is disconnected. Disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler line before raising the vehicle to support it properly. To remove the Radiator from service use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to uncover and disconnect the Radiator outlet hose at the Radiator outlet hose clamp site followed by disconnecting the lower transmission oil cooler line and removing the generator cooling hose clamp. Detach the generator cooling hose from the Radiator then lower the vehicle before extracting the Radiator completely. After placing the new Radiator into position, you should raise the vehicle to connect the generator cooling hose to the Radiator while tightening the generator cooling hose clamp. After connecting the Radiator outlet hose to its fitting point, use a wrench to apply tension on the Radiator outlet hose clamp. After lowering the vehicle connect both the surge tank inlet hose and the upper transmission oil cooler line while tightening the surge tank inlet hose clamp. To connect the assembly lift it upward towards the Radiator slots while engaging its tabs before attaching the fan and shroud together. Fit the Radiator inlet hose between the engine and Radiator while tightening both clamps with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). The process requires installing the condenser followed by filling the cooling system and pressing the a/c system to vacuum before recharging it. A halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) checks for leaks in the component's fittings. Check the transmission fluid level as the last step.
