2004 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
A: The first step to replace the Radiator includes removing the a/c system refrigerant while draining the cooling system. First remove the condenser before loosening the Radiator inlet hose clamp tension with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Disconnect the Radiator Hose starting at the Radiator before removing it from all attachments. The cooling fan and shroud assembly needs to be raised and positioned to free its tabs from the Radiator slots before being removed from its position on the Radiator. The hose clamp pliers (J 38185) will help reposition the surge tank inlet hose clamp on the Radiator after disconnecting the surge tank inlet hose as well as the upper and lower transmission oil cooler lines from the Radiator. Using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) you should disconnect the Radiator outlet hose by releasing tension from its clamp. Before lowering the vehicle you should disconnect both Radiator Hose clamps which lead to the generator cooling hose. When installing the new Radiator position it inside the vehicle then elevate the vehicle to connect the generator cooling hose properly and apply the generator cooling hose clamp. Lower the vehicle only after you connect the lower transmission oil cooler line along with the Radiator outlet hose and secure tension on the Radiator outlet hose clamp. After connecting the upper transmission oil cooler line to the surge tank inlet hose you must engage tension on the surge tank inlet hose clamp. The cooling fan and shroud assembly should be raised while tabs should be connected to the Radiator slots before assembly. You should install the Radiator inlet hose and connect it to the engine before applying tension with hose clamp pliers (J 38185) that can secure the Radiator inlet hose clamp near the engine and Radiator apex. The installation process concludes with filling the cooling system and evacuating and recharging the a/c system and applying halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for fitting leakage tests. You must also inspect the transmission fluid level after completing the work.
