2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake disc on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Raising and supporting your vehicle is the first step before you replace the front Brake Disc. Insert the c-clamp between the caliper housing and brake caliper from both the back and outside pad area. Secure the c-clamp until the piston inside the caliper loses enough pressure to allow the tool to move over the Brake Disc. Lower the clamp from the setup. Keep the brake caliper from falling when mechanics wire up its mounting area during hydraulic hose connections to protect the hose. Pull out the brake caliper and caliper mounting bracket together from the Steering Knuckle so the hydraulic brake hose stays tension-free. The Brake Disc should be aligned with its wheel studs before removing it from the wheel. Use wheel hub resurfacing kit item j 42450-a and rotor resurfacing kit j 41013 to clean rust and contamination from wheel bearings and brake discs. Check if dust or debris remains on the disc mounting surfaces before installing the new disc to the hub/axle flange with matching marks as positioning reference. Check the Brake Disc lateral runout after assembly and repair it if the measurement fails the standard requirements. Reinstall the brake caliper together with the caliper bracket directly onto the Steering Knuckle before adding the tire and wheel back. After lowering the car check if pads and disc need burnishing for best performance.
