2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line at the caliper on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: In order to replace the rear brake hose at their caliper, one is going to first lift and support the vehicle and then remove the tire and wheel assembly. Clean all dirt from the brake hose ends and brake pipe fitting and with the use of back up wrench on the hose fitting, remove the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, capping or plugging it to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Disengage the brake hose retaining clip from the mounting bracket and then pull off the hose from the bracket and the brake hose-to-caliper bolt form the brake caliper and finally, remove the brake hose. Dispose of the two copper brake hose gaskets, which sometimes cling to the brake caliper end or hose end, and cap or plug both ends of the hose to avoid losing fluid. During the installation course, remove the caps or plugs and install new copper brake hose gaskets with the brake hose bolt to the brake hose. Squeeze the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt with a wrench to bring the torque to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.), then connect the brake hose to the mounting bracket with it side fitting matched with the notch. Secure the hose fitting with the retaining clip and connect the valve portion of the brake pipe fitting from the rear brake hose, tighten it to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, while making sure the hose does not touch any parts of the suspension. Although no changes have been detected in task parameters, it is necessary to test all function fields of the server concerning faults and, if necessary, rectify. Last step, bleed the hydraulic brake system and drop the vehicle.
