2005 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2005 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor replacement begins by draining the engine coolant below the sensor's level. Unplug the ECT sensor harness connector before you extract the ECT sensor. Use thread sealant GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent on the sensor threads. Before installing the sensor you need to tap out its mounting hole in the engine head thoroughly for thread sealant removal. Reinstalling an old sensor requires cleaning the threads first and applying RTV sealant to the threads. Secure the ECT sensor with 23 N.m (17 lb ft) torque. Hook up the ECT sensor harness connector making sure it snaps into position then make sure it stays connected by pulling it back. Complete the engine coolant procedure by adding it according to its correct measurement.
