2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rod Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the connecting rod bearing on 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: You need certain tools for connecting Rod Bearing replacement including the use the connecting rod bolt guide set (J 5239) together with torque angle meter (J 45059). Connecting rod bolt guide set (J 5239) and torque angle meter (J 45059). The first step involves taking out both the Oil Pan and the spark plugs from the cylinder system under service. Position the Crankshaft at bottom dead center to remove the Oil Pump bolt and Oil Pump along with its driveshaft. First extract the deflector nuts from the Crankshaft oil deflector and separate the deflector and cap nuts from the connecting rod before extracting the lower connecting Rod Bearing. Keep the bearings with their original connecting rod to reuse for reassembly. Safely elevate the connecting rod and piston with the connecting rod bolt guide set (J 5239) to get to the upper connecting Rod Bearing for removal. Inspect the bearings after cleaning up excess oil by measuring the resulting gap. The installation should avoid any contact that would scrape or file the bearing inserts while the connecting rod cap bolt holes and mating surfaces must both remain clean and dry. Apply engine oil to the bearing surface followed by upper connecting Rod Bearing installation then use the connecting rod bolt guide set (J 5239) to pull down the piston and connecting rod and upper bearing before guide removal. Install the lower connecting Rod Bearing to the connecting rod cap in succession with the connecting rod cap itself. Tighten the cap nuts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) before using the torque angle meter (J 45059) to implement a 75-degree rotation of the nuts. Test the binding through rod movement by pushing and pulling the rod and readjust the cap nuts when required. Check the connecting rod side clearance before you install the Crankshaft oil deflector along with its nuts which require a torque setting of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Put the Oil Pump driveshaft back in with the Oil Pump then bolt the Oil Pump securely to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Reset both the spark plugs and Oil Pan in position and inspect the system for fuel leaks while monitoring oil pressure levels.
