2005 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering hose assembly on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The replacement process of Power Steering Hose assembly starts by elevating the vehicle and putting it on supports. Install a drain pan underneath. The power steering gear requires removal of the assembly mounting bolt to disconnect the hose assembly from its power steering position. First disconnect the power steering return hose together with the Power Steering Cooler hose from the Power Steering Cooler. Lower the vehicle while disconnecting both the power steering pressure hose and the return hose at their points on the Power Steering Pump. Take out the pcm from its holding bracket before placing it in a safe location. Start by removing the front bracket mounting bolt from the frame in which the Power Steering Hose assembly rests. After that, separate the power steering pressure hose from its retaining clip then uninstall the rear bracket mounting bolt. Remove the Power Steering Hose assembly after extracting it from the vehicle. The vehicle needs to be raised for inspection before detailed cleansing of the power steering gear inlet and outlet apertures to block contamination. The j 44586's seal extraction end produces power steering gear oil seal removal with flat bladed tool assistance. Use the seal installation end of j 44586 to install the new power steering gear oil seal until it emerges entirely inside. After lowering the vehicle install the Power Steering Hose assembly. Use the correct tool to install and tighten the rear bracket mounting bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). This process should start with installing the power steering pressure hose retaining clip followed by installation of the front bracket mounting bolt. The Power Steering Cooler hose needs to be installed into the Power Steering Pump followed by power steering pressure installation onto the pump. Tighten the fitting to 25 nm (18 inch lbs.). After installing the pcm at its bracket position, the vehicle needs to be elevated again for tightening the power steering return hose, and Power Steering Cooler hose connections to the Power Steering Cooler. The Power Steering Hose assembly requires installation onto the power steering gear by mounting bolt while tightening the bolt to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Then drain the pan and lower the vehicle before bleaching the power steering system.
