• Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on a 4WD on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

  A: To repair a Steering Knuckle for a 4wd vehicle, commence by removing the tire and wheel center cap as well as the drive axle nut. Lift and hoist the vehicle, followed by the removal of the tire and wheel. Then remove the Wheel Hub and bearing as well as the outer tie rod retaining nut. It is recommended to disconnect the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle with the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J24319-B). Loosen and remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolts and brake hose bracket while leaving it on the Steering Knuckle. For installation, look for the Steering Knuckle that will fit in on the lower Control Arm and screw the lower Ball Joint retaining nut and tighten it to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). The upper Control Arm should be attached to the Steering Knuckle, and the upper Control Arm pinch bolt and nut should be installed by tightening to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the brake hose bracket to the Steering Knuckle and bolt it back in staying secure with the retaining bolts that hold it at 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Install the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle with new retaining nut then it should be tightened to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Replace the Wheel Hub and the bearing, then tire and wheel. Bring down the vehicle and secure the drive axle nut using 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.) and finally, adjust the front toe.
