2005 Chevrolet Venture CV Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the CV Boot on 2005 Chevrolet Venture?
A: To servicing and repairing the joint boot constant velocity, you will need a set of tools to begin with: drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048), snap ring pliers (J 8059), drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910). Begin by removing the big seal retaining clamp from the CV Joint using a side cutter and getting rid of it. Use a hand grinder to break the swage ring for the purpose of being withdrawn. Take the halfshaft outboard seal out of contact with CV Joint outer race and slide it off of the joint at the halfshaft bar. Clean grease from within the CV Joint inner race, and open the ears of the race retaining ring with snap ring pliers. These are the retail costs plus other retail expenses in other countries. Since the agreement is with state-owned companies on one side, it avoids the vigilance of consequential contracting parties. Use a brass drift to tap and tilt gently the CV Joint cage in order to prise and take away the chrome alloy balls while repeating 6 times. Clean the inner and outer race assemblies together with the CV Joint cage, and chrome alloy balls with cleaning solvent, then dry all parts and look out for any unusual wear, cracks, or damage and fit in any damaged component. Wipe off rust on the half shaft bar with a wire brush at its seal mount area. For assembly enter the new swage ring in the neck of the outboard seal but without swaging, then enter the outboard seal onto the halfshaft bar still placing it in the seal groove. Swage the ring at using the drive axle swage ring clamp while aligning and tightening bolts. Inspect the swaged ring for deforms and if any deformity is present, re-swage. Carefully lube with a light coat of grease to the ball grooves of the inner and outer races, then put inner race in the cage with proper alignment. Put the cage and inner race into the outer one, loading the chrome balls until they are in place. Pack the CV Joint with grease and snap it onto the halfshaft bar until its retaining ring sits. Make sure the outboard seal is the right shape and slide the outer race of the CV Joint over the large diameter of the outboard seal using drive axle seal clamp pliers crimp the seal retaining clamp to the appropriate torque and measure the gap dimension on the clamp ear until the right measurement is obtained.
