- Q: How to replace the primary cam gear and timing chain on 2007 Cadillac DTS?A: In order to replace the timing chain and sprockets, remove the Oil Pump first. Align timing mark using the crankshaft socket (J 39946). In turn, can remove a correlation chain of the secondary camshaft, and after that, a timing chain tensioner. Remove the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt and remove the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket as an assembly. Clean and inspect the camshaft timing drive components before installing. Fit the timing marks of the camshaft intermediate and crankshaft sprockets vertically into the installed position. Mount the valve covers onto the heads and double check the timing chain install on the drive sprockets, with the no. 1 piston positioned at top dead center (TDC), and crankshaft keyway at 1 o'clock. Using crankshaft socket (J 39946), align the crankshaft key with drive sprocket, then install the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket as an assembly. Mount the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt and tighten it to 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Do not take off the pin of the tensioner until the secondary timing chains are installed. Mount main drive chain tensioner, followed by secondary drive chains for the camshafts. Take out the pin from the timing chain tensioner release lever, align the timing marks vertically, and lastly, install the Oil Pump.
